Chỉ tục lệ cưới xin ở một số nơi ở Bắc Bộ, theo đó khi con dâu mới về nhà thì mẹ chồng tạm lánh đi nơi khác. Cũng được dùng để nói đến sự không hòa hợp, xung khắc giữa mẹ chồng và nàng dâu.

It refers to a wedding custom in some parts of northern Vietnam in which the mother-in-law temporarily leaves when the new daughter-in-law arrives. It is also used to suggest tension or incompatibility between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law.
